The third in the three part series Select Sikh Scriptures this volume is devoted to Guru Angad Dev, Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das, Guru Tegh Bahadur, and Bhaktas among whom more important are Kabir, Farid, Ravi Das and Namdev. Similarly, the Bhats are represented with Kal Sahar, Keerat, Mathura, Balwand and Satta. Along with the Sikh Gurus, it incorporates compositions of men of God belonging to various castes and creeds, regions and avocations. Among them are Jaidev of Bengal, Surdas of Awadh, Namdev, Trilochan and Parma Nand of Maharashtra, Beni, Ramanand, Pipa, Sain, Kabir, Ravi Das and Bhikhan of Uttar Pradesh, Dhanna of Rajasthan and Farid from Punjab. Kabir was a weaver, Sadhna a butcher, Namdev a tailor, Dhanna a jat, Pipa a king, Sain a barber, Ravi Das a tanner, Farid a Muslim divine, Surdas a Hindu mystic and Bhikhan a learned scholar of Islam.
Prefaced with perceptive introductory notes on the Gurus, saints. and sages featuring in the volume, the selection of the scriptures and their transcreation into English is done by Kartar Singh Duggal, a noted litterateur.
